A deadly road rage incident that shook Interstate 4 in Davenport has resulted in the arrest of 58-year-old Daniele Hamilton, who now faces a murder charge in connection with the shooting that claimed the life of 58-year-old Kevin Berry, also a truck driver.
Sheriff Grady Judd disclosed the chilling details during a press conference, revealing that Hamilton had shot Berry in the early hours of a Sunday morning near the off-ramp to U.S. Highway 27 from I-4 in Davenport. The consequences of this fateful encounter have been nothing short of tragic.
Hamilton is now charged with second-degree murder in addition to other gun-related charges stemming from the incident. The initial investigation began around 2:15 a.m. when authorities found Berry shot near his white Dodge truck, moments after he had exited the highway.
Although Berry was rushed to a nearby hospital, his condition deteriorated, and he was ultimately taken off life support, being pronounced dead at 6:25 p.m. on Tuesday. This incident took place as both men, Berry and Hamilton, were truck drivers on their respective ways to or from work.
Detectives diligently collected evidence from surrounding businesses, including valuable video footage that captured men’s voices in heated confrontation and the sounds of gunshots. This crucial evidence led them to Hamilton’s home. Initially, Hamilton denied any involvement, claiming to be a witness.
However, a search of his residence revealed spent shell casings in his bathroom trash and a .38 special revolver in his bedroom. Hamilton eventually conceded, stating, “You’ve found what you need to find, so we can go [to jail].” He was subsequently taken into custody at Polk County Jail.
Sheriff Judd commended his dedicated detectives for their relentless pursuit of justice, emphasizing that they leave no stone unturned in solving such cases. He expressed disappointment in the unnecessary escalation of a dispute that has now left Hamilton facing serious legal consequences.
